The Bellevue Hotel on George and Alice Sts. passed away at 1:30 am of Friday 20 of April 1979 at the age of 93. Born in 1886 and standing across from the Parliament House, the hotel was a meeting place for parliamentarians and journalists.
John Lowis went there as a kid to a family wedding. Pamela Henderson and Carolyn Willersdorf used to walk past on their way to school. Sue Barell met the man she would eventually marry there in 1966. Timothy La Budde’s father had lunch there and tipped the waiter for the first time.
As bulldozers ate at the Bellevue hotel was surrounded by its family- Brisbane’s citizens pleading against its tearing down. The Bellevue Hotel was survived by a bronze plaque and is soon to be replaced by the Queen’s wharf.
